Use of Lightning Detection Data

Lightning Detection - Improving Forecasts and Warnings

Africa has some of the world's highest lightning densities.

Although satellite and distant monitoring technologies show more lightning strikes per square kilometer per year around Lake Victoria and other parts of Africa than nearly anywhere else in the world, data that is local and usable for injury and property damage prevention is largely lacking.

ACLENet is working with lightning detection companies, collaborating with national and regional meteorological programs, and partnering with organizations developing unique approaches to gather data and develop Early Warning Systems and educational programs that will minimize deaths, injuries and property damage across Africa.
