Bumangi Primary School, Kalangala District, Lake Victoria Island, LPS installed August 2024

Bumangi Primary School is on the largest island in Lake Victoria near Uganda. As storms build up across the entire length of the Lake (weather primarily goes from east to west in most of central Africa), they strike this island and this school with full force, often resulting in severe damage to infrastructure and posing risks to life.

Materials to protect the school were donated by Thompson Lightning Protection Company, shipping was arranged and donated by East Coast Lightning, with overall funding by Ludwick Family Foundation. Photos show the school, students, teachers, and Dr Ken Nixon from South Africa (ACLENet Board member) who traveled to Uganda at his own expense to meet our staff. Much to their astonishment, Ken rolled up his sleeves and climbed on roofs to assist our team in installing the LPS.

We thank each of these contributors for protecting Bumangi's teachers and students. More photos show ACLENet's Founding Director, Mary Ann Cooper (USA) and the ACLENet staff including Tony Mukasa-Lusambu, ACLENet Board member and retired commissioner of basic education, who visited Mulabana Primary School (#8) and Bumangi Primary School on Lake Victoria Island in April 2024.
