Mulabana Primary School, Kalangala District, Lake Victoria, 2024-06
Mulabana Primary School is on an the isthmus at the south end of the largest island in Lake Victoria near Uganda. As storms build up across the entire length of the Lake (weather primarily goes from east to west in most of central Africa), they strike this island and this school with full force. Mulabana is an attractive school that is located central to the six fishing communities that surround it. The staff and particularly the Head Teacher, Margaret Kenshubi, have built the school from barely 80 students a decade ago to over 450 now, with over a dozen of the 2024 graduating students scoring a Level 1 on their graduating exams. Parents feel confident that their children will receive as good or better of an education on the island now instead of having to send them to boarding school on the Uganda mainland.
Materials to protect the school were donated by Gopa Kumar, Cape Electric, India, who also paid for the shipping of the materials to Uganda. Installation was funded by a grant from the Ludwick family Foundation. Photos also show a visit from ACLENet's Founding Director, Mary Ann Cooper, in April just prior to installation and of Daile Zhang, another Board member, who visited Uganda in June during the installation.
